To take control of your data at your organization you need to have sound data policies in place on how data can, and cannot, be used. These policies need to be in alignment with what is possible with the data, what is good for your organization and what is best for your customers. You have to understand what types of data usage people are comfortable with and whether that is consistent with your organization's values. These policies need to be known, easy to access and be transparent. Data policies need to be part of your data governance / data intelligence content.
