Unsure of where your organization is in the data governance (data intelligence) process?

Then ask and answer the following questions:

  1. Does your data request involve interaction with the requester and implementer?
  2. Do you have a focus on training all users in the reporting solutions?
  3. Do you train in the data more than the tool?
  4. Do you document your own reports (in any way)?
  5. Do you have an organizational reporting knowledge base (of any kind)?
  6. Do you have a data dictionary?
  7. Do you have a documentation repository for reports?
  8. Do you have formal data stewards?
  9. Do you have a well understood report request/change process?
  10. Do you have a well understood data quality resolution process?
  11. If you have a knowledge base, is it accessible to all stakeholders?
  12. Do you deliver report documentation in any way with your reporting tools?
  13. Do you feel like you can start to improve trust in the data, even in a small way?

Very few organizations will be able to say yes to all of these questions.  It is OK to ask for assistance in accomplishing data governance (data intelligence).  Remember that IData offers data governance services and has available the Data Cookbook, the leading data governance solution for higher education institutions.  Feel free to Contact Us.
